Back from being green…

The New Green Man is back after a long hiatus due to an illness – pneumonia! Well, I was really a green man there for a while, but had lots of time to ponder and I’ll be tossing out new thoughts shortly, so wander…meanwhile, off for some nice tea at the Forester’s Hut!

Weather the whether

Not a grammatical tic, but weather the whether is my my thought on the climate change discussion. We’re all having to “weather” the “whether” or not the climate will change sufficiently to cause changes in our lives or our childrens’.

Well, The New Green Man thinks its time to borrow from some much longer and deeper research than any scientist currently has, that of the Mongol herders, or the traditional tribes of the High Arctic, such as Inuit or the Laplanders. In either, case these cultures leave a light footprint upon the landscape and seascape, always careful to live within the ability of their surroundings, moving on to keep from exhausting the local resources. Now most of us can’t “move” constantly, but we can adapt from their cultural outlook, that is leaving a light footprint and trying to live within the mean of our local landscape. Got your own garden? No, then buy local produce. Do you really need to use the car, when an hour on the bicycle would do both you and your wallet some good? Change comes incremently, but it comes…

Well, back to the Forester’s Hut…

Welcome to the World of The New Green Man!

The Green Man

Under the earth I go,

On the oak-leaf I stand,

I ride on the filly that never was foaled,

And I carry the dead

in my hand.

From a traditional Highland Scot’s story…
